Sagebrush Elementary Tree Canopy Management Project:

CommuniTrees partnered with the Sheridan County School District #2 and the City of Sheridan to manage trees on the Sagebrush Elementary School campus. We were awarded a Wyoming State Forestry Community Forestry Grant to contract with a local consulting arborist to provide the school with a Tree Canopy Management Plan, to help the school prioritize tree care needs. We provided training to district staff in proper tree care practices, and City of Sheridan Community Forestry staff and local tree care companies donated their services to remove four cottonwood trees in front of the school that had declined to the point of posing a risk to students and staff at the school.

Total value of donation: $13,975.29

Memorial Trees Planted:

Two memorial trees were planted in Buffalo, one to replace a memorial tree which had died and had to be removed, for a Town and Country Garden Club member at the Johnson County Library, and one, donated by the Clear Creek Conservation District to honor Tiffany Songer, a teacher at the Buffalo High School.

Total Value of Donation: $970.00

Buffalo Community Orchard:

CommuniTrees Continued its commitment to care for the trees at the Buffalo Community Orchard by holding a volunteer work day. Volunteers planted two replacement fruit trees and a new cherry shrub, which was donated by the City of Buffalo. Volunteers also worked to clear weeds and extra soil from around the lower trunks of the trees, applied new mulch to all of the trees and shrubs, and installed new tree identification signs.

Total Value of Donation: $995.75

Buffalo Community Orchard

The Buffalo Community Orchard was established in 2021 by the Bread of Life Food Pantry, Johnson County School District No. 1, and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Wyoming, as a way to provide long-term, sustainable access to fresh fruit to the community. The Orchard is located on Johnson County School district property at 601 W. Lott St., in Buffalo. The Orchard is open to the public. In addition, fruit will be distributed through the Bread of Life Food Pantry. In 2022, CommuniTrees was asked to join as a partner to provide care for the trees in the Orchard. Look for educational signs and events coming soon! Donations can be made to a specific fund to take care of the Orchard.
